The Southwest Chief.

Today about 1:30 a neighbor, Bill, rang our bell and explained that his phone had gone out, his wife had the cell, and he wasn't able to reach the guy who was supposed to give him a ride to the train station. At 2, he was to catch the Amtrak train to Kansas City. So we took him to Lamy.

The ride from our house is short and very pretty. Made us want to get aboard the Southwest Chief and take a look at America from the rails. Maybe we will. One of the stops along the way is Bent's Old Fort! See below.

Fred Harvey hotels are legendary in the Southwest...

...and the El Ortiz was located in Lamy.

Sparky met the train in Lamy.

He's the Santa Fe Fire Department mascot.

That suit must have been so hot, I was worried he would spontaneously combust.
