Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site.
We passed eye-catching farm vistas, such as these lonely hay bales on Rt. 109, as we drove from Santa Fe to Bent's Old Fort near La Junta, Colorado.
Located on the Arkansas River--which was then the international boundary between the U.S. and Mexico--the fort was one of the significant centers of fur trade on the Santa Fe trail. For more on the Bent's Old Fort Junior Ranger program, please visit our homeschool blog.
