Darcy Gray, contemporary oils and collage.

Darcy Gray works in different media and our daughter found her to be truly engaging about her approach to art. Emma also liked that she is welcoming about perceptions of her work that may or may not be close to what she intended.

We learned that the artist has been painting since about 1990; that she likes to work with pink, orange, and soft sunset colors; and has been influenced by the work of Cy Twombly, an American abstract impressionist painter.

When Darcy Gray describes her work it becomes clear that she is interested in exploring texture, as she puts paint on and takes it off, maintains undercoats, and sometimes embeds objects into her painting, such as oleander leaves. She also works in collage. Gray used to say that she worked in pencil as well, but learned from other artists that the proper word to use is graphite.
