Rio Grande style...
...ancestral Puebloans struck a basalt boulder with stones, like hammer and chisel, to chip off desert varnish on the boulders' surfaces. Archaeologists refer to these images as being made in the "Rio Grande style."
Pictographs, though, were painted with yucca fiber brushes and natural pigments made from native plants and animal blood.
